The Kingdom of Amarak, or The Kingdom of Golden Sands as it is colloquially known, is the second-largest nation on the continent of Eressea. It can arguably be said that Amarak is the oldest civilization on the continent outside of the elves. its existence spanning back around 3,000 years. Throughout history Amarak has seen its power wax and wane through several dynastic periods.

Absolute power is held by a dragonborn queen, the most recent in a long line matrilineal descendants who trace their lineage back to Bahamut himself.

History

The Dragon War

Rimmersgard was hunting the dragons of Eressea to extinction. To the Rimmersmen there was nothing more thrilling than slaying a dragon and looting the carcass for spoils and trophies. Not content to only kill the dragons living in Rimmersgard, the Rimmersmen began to search further afield, their longships plying the waters in search of new prey. Seeing dragon-kind being destroyed in this way, the Queen of Amarak declared that she had been given a vision by Bahamut and that Amarak would rise and fight the Rimmersmen.

Amarak, not known for the maritime prowess, sought to create a fleet. Ships were begged, borrowed, and built in secret until enough were available to carry an army to Rimmersgard. Amarak defeated Rimmersgard in a pitched battle before the gates of Grymmdjarr, but it was a costly victory. Amarakian losses were so severe that the Queen was forced to order her army to return to Amarak. Unfortunately, the battle came too late and the number of dragons had grown to few. In but a few short years all the remaining dragons disappeared from the continent.

Politics

Amarak is ruled by Queen Nabila Wen-he-net. The queen owns all the land in Amarak, enacts laws, collects taxes, and defends Amarak from invaders as the commander-in-chief of the army. The queen officiates over religious ceremonies, and chooses the site of new temples to Bahamut. She is responsible for maintaining Maat, or balance and justice, and part of this includes going to war when necessary to defend the country or attacking others when it is believed that this would contribute to Maat, such as to obtain resources.

Military

The Kingdom only maintains a small army during times of peace, perhaps 30,000 soldiers, with about a third being stationed on the northern border, and the other two thirds stationed on the southern border.

The Queen is the commander and chief of the military, but she grants most of the day-to-day command to The Sword of Bahamut, the title given to the chief general of the Amarakian forces. Currently this role is filled by Khalid al-Walid
