Caligni

The dark-dwelling Caligni are less a race of their own and more a shadow of a race that once was. Born of the Dark Folk race, Caligni are free of the corruptive magics the Owb have used to twist the Dark Folk to their whims. Before the Owb there were the Calignos, a race that fled underground after an apocalyptic event in the far past. Generations underground warped their forms before the Owbs found them and forged a new society from the ashes of the old. What remains are the Dark Folk. Very rarely amongst the tribes of the Darklands, a child is born free of the corrupting magics that plague their society. These children are called Caligni, after the Calignos, and are highly revered. The Owb who rule the Dark Folk society fear and revile the Caligni. It is not uncommon for a Caligni child approaching adulthood to meet an unfortunate and fatal accident. What Caligni survive into adulthood are typically those in exile who fled the wrath of the Owb.
