R00 - A day in the life

Session

Thursday. 1st of Muvay, 1024.

We’re playing hide and seek in the woods. My friends and I. Iagan brought out sticks, whoever got the marked stick is the seeker. I got it. Again.

It took me a while to find everyone. Except Iagan. He was the last, hidden off in a cave that I always used. He’s getting better. Then my dad comes. Yells at me. Bottle in hand.

That fucking memory. Always coming back. That. Fucking. Memory.

I must have zoned out on watch, staring at the fire. Fire. I love a campfire. It’s relaxing... But it always brings back memories. Mostly of the war, sometimes further back. So I’m still afraid of it. Just a bit. It's a strange feeling. Leopoldas Rumbutis and his family were heading out as summer is ending. Gave me my pay and orders again, as usual. The daughter asked me to keep an eye on the teddy (Mr. Teddies) and keep him safe. Which I’ll do. Makes a good companion. Doesn’t talk much.

Mother's day. 2nd of Muvay, 1024.

While shopping, Harris came by and offered me a job to work with him on a bounty for a Wight. I hate him. He gives me the creeps something fierce. After he left Margaret seemed to agree entirely as she gave me cakes. She asked me a favour: to find yarrow flowers in the south. I agreed, of course. It’s far enough that it would be better to use one of the horses at the estate. She wants me to bring them to Alyna at the Tilley Skiddey shop.

Rain won’t let up. Mr Teddies and I head to the hills to search for these flowers. And of course, a bunch of goats were munching on them. Told them to fuck off and got the flowers. A long trip back and forth for about fifteen minutes of actual work. At least Mr Teddies was there to keep me company.

I keep forgetting how pretty Alyna is. She asked me to throw the yarrow in but I had plenty extra. I wasn’t sure what to do with it so she said she could take it off my hands, I decided to give it to her free. It looked like I was trying to give her flowers. I never felt so embarrassed.

I cleaned up my house a bit, sorted arrow shafts, put the food Margaret gave me away. As night fell my shift began again. I heard something going on, as two people ran around, I sent a warning shot. They were damn kids.

A goblin boy, Potin', and a little human girl named Anna. I told them to come out. Two kids from the orphanage.

They were sent here on a dare to steal something from the manor. If they did they got the older kids’ dessert tomorrow. I sat them down, let them know how dangerous it was. If I had missed by even an inch...

I let them stay in the guardhouse for the night. I gave them a silver spoon.

I told them that in the morning I will walk them back through the forest, safely, to the orphanage but they need to act like they’re in trouble. Then I will put the fear of the gods into the rest of them so they know they can’t do this. I’ll talk with Lady Trudgeon about the situation, maybe give her a few gold from my payment. I’m sure they’re more than a handful for her.

They’re good kids. I’m glad I missed. Can’t have another kid on my conscience.
