Bachmann's Ruin is a large, uncharted territory northwest of the Ryne Monarchy, in the White Sea. It is named after Franz Bachmann, a famed explorer, cartographer, and naturalist whose exploratory voyage of the territory over a century ago never returned. For the past decade, the Ryne has established penal and labor colonies in the territory, and more recently the Plum Hawk Trading Company has attempted to secure mining, ironwood, and fur-trading sites. The Ryne, however, has frequently exercised its monarchical rights by commandeering the PHC's ironwood sites and precious metal mines shortly after their discovery. Beyond the race to exploit the Ruin's natural resources, the territory has also given rise to a somewhat lethargic expansionist push, with the Ryne awarding plots of land to recently-released prisoners and debtors who have paid off their contracts. Other interests, like religious followers of The Sunbearer, have taken advantage of the land buy and purchased several plots for the eventual construction of a Sunbearer Abbey.

How far Bachmann's Ruin extends to the north and northwest is currently unknown. Mapping of the territory has proven slow, with increasing environmental dangers the further one extends from the town of Verdam on the territory's southernmost tip. Colloquially, the settled areas along the western side of the Felrock Mountains and south of the Turschwelle River are known as the  Outskirts. The areas north of the river, which have been barely explored, let alone settled, are known broadly as Hinterlands. Aside from Cold-Irons Prison along the southeastern tip of the Ruin, there has been no settlement of the areas east and northeast of the Felrocks.
