Vander fell silent and it felt like the whole world joined him. There were no sounds at all in the glade where they sat. He didn’t move or say anything for a good long solid moment. He was internally dealing with all the details penned by his mother in the letter.
“I have so many questions. I don’t even know where to start to be honest.” Vander said breaking his silence and looking up at night sky. Vander took a breath. “How am I supposed keep everyone live, if I can’t even keep my own parents.... I mean they are, we’re so much more...”
Vander shook his head keeping him from finishing that thought and rhetorical question.
“Master Lianthorn, can you...” Vander started and stopped. “What I want to know is...”
Too any questions flooded him. He gripped the letter tight as he tried to hold to his emotions and thoughts.
“How about I start something simple... this ring” Both of them looked down at the at the ring he wore. It was the ring which his parent gave him before leaving. “I know there is something special about it, but neither of parents shared the detail with me. Can you tell me the significance?”
The old elf smiled. “That too was a gift from our King when the first of your family came here. It is said to hold magic, but neither your father nor I ever could determine its exact nature or power. It became a symbol of the Ravenwood clan in the King’s court for all there knew it came to your family as a favored clan. For now, I would guess it is your proof beyond all doubt as to whom you are when we enter the capital and are presented to the King and court.”
