Among Clerics of Greater God Boccob there is a special organization that was originally founded around year 200 of the Epoch of the Builders (The second age of light). The Order of the Observant Eye aimed to emulate their patron god Boccob (the Uncaring, Lord of All Magics, Archmage of the Deities). Their mission became to observe the world, record anything of note, and archive it. It had members in every kingdom and on every continent of Somnia with the standing mission to observe but not interfere. They also collected samples of magic, monsters, and anything else worth study. Their emulation went so far as to create imitations of Boccob’s Great Planar Library where he stored his collected knowledge from each plane he has visited. These Lesser Libraries of Boccob became reservoirs of the Order’s collected knowledge and were hidden around the world. Not every cleric of Boccob was required to join, or even contribute, for that was not the way of Boccob, but all respected their wealth of knowledge and often heeded their call on the rare occasion it was given.
The Order made themselves publicly known on year 1 of the Epoch of the Chosen (Third Age of Light). They decided that the threat that warranted the unification of the kingdoms of Perluxia under the banner of the newly formed The Hierarchy was great enough that they would break their non interference law. They backed Alathar Korianthil as the first Grand Hierarch, who became known as The Founder. The Order served as advisors to the first two Grand Hierarchs until the reign of Ralinor Siannodel the Young, the Mad. He ruled from 1120 EC to 1620 EC and grew increasingly paranoid. That 500 years became known as The Darkening. He erased much of the historical record and eliminated those with what he viewed as forbidden knowledge. For that reason the Mad Hierarch eradicated the Order of the Observant Eye.
Some survived and since then have gone back to their secretive ways. The Order still puts out the call to it’s clerics but now they seek to rebuild. Their libraries hidden locations are lost to them. It is now 2422 EC and the Order still seeks to locate many of those libraries.
