Oni

Oni is a human male in his early twenties. Like most nomads he has dark features. You have very bright crystal blue eyes. He is almost always hopeful, even when things look bad. He believes the future can still hold great new reward.

Oni was born in a small tribal village. They are part of the nomadic tribes of the dessert, but they had built this small semi-permanent village near Trobridge, based on the water gathered in the Aqufier. His mother Paulu is a water carrier. She is a valued member of the tribe and this gave her family a slightly elevated position in the tribe. Basically, it meant that Oni and his two siblings had a little freedom to pursue their own interests within the tribe. As long as the tribe could gain value from those interests. Oni’s father and older brother were hunters. They were often gone for mouths at a time. They would go off in hunting parties of six to twelve people mostly males. They would hunt and return with meat and pelts. Oni’s sister was following in his mother’s footsteps and had many suiters because of it. Oni was the odd person out.

He knew his mother’s love, but his father was always disappointed in him. He wanted him to be more like his brother. Oni’s older brother was a good hunter. He was able to follow the tracks of many of the desert reptiles. He was even wearing the tribal token of the hunter. He acquired his first token before the age of 15 which was rare in the tribe. Now in his late twenties he can lead hunts on his own.

Oni did two things for the tribe. He enjoyed entertaining the tribe and visiting tribes. He was a practiced fire eater, and drummer. He was good in acrobatics but did not usually entertain with his tumbling skills. He would add tumbling to his fire eating from time to time.

At a young ag Oni knew he could never be his brother in the tribe or in his fathers’ eyes. He saw a few of the freed slaves practicing some slow-moving exercises in a ruined basement. It seemed odd, but he noticed that most of them were quite agile. He joined them one day. He had thought he would not be welcome as they were not favored within the tribe. They were seen as the tribe’s burden and most were treated as slaves.

As he walked into the basement, many stared at him. He looked around the group and now noticed that both men and women practiced together. Ippi was the teacher in the group. He smiled and welcomed Oni in. this was the first time Oni felt welcome and wanted by anyone in the tribe. He was better than these people, but he was welcome here. He felt home here, even as he would need to hide this from the tribe.

Tattoo_on_one_left_arm.pngOni now had two sets of family in the tribe. He was the entertainer that most of the tribe laughed at and he was here an equal among the least in the tribe. Ippi started to teach him the arts, legends, and philosophy of Lathandoe. Over time Oni added symbols of Lathandoe as tattoos to each of his arms.

Tattoo_on_one_right_arm.jpegAs Oni has learned more about Lathandoe, he has learned to pray every morning to glorify in the rebirth that each dawn. Life is about creativity, dawn, renewal, birth, athletics, spring, self-perfection, vitality and youth. As long as you are alive it is possible to bring the rebirth of a better tomorrow. Through these teachings, Oni has great hope for the future, that drives him, even when things look their worst.
