Adventurers:

Believing themselves to have acquired the most valuable treasures from the tomb, the party left the expeditionary force to carry on with the exploration, and headed back to replenish supplies. Stopping by the keep where Artzua remained imprisoned but less wild in temperament, they determined to seek a remedy to her feline transformations at some point in the future. Then they set off for the valley of caves.

They pressed further past several cave entrances, several of which they’d explored already, in search of grander adventure / reward. They opted for a tunnel in which rolled a thick white mist. They advanced warily, scarcely able to see a few feet in front of them, until they found themselves back at the entrance; this didn’t tally with their mapping at all. They tried again, taking different turnings, but once more found themselves back at the start.

Again they entered but found their paths overlapping where they’d trod previously, and doubling back seemed to present them with different turnings. Markers left to indicate where they’d gone would appear ahead of them. What had been a hunt for the cave’s treasure-owning inhabitants became a desperate search for the exit again.

Fighting their way through a cavern of winged, bloodsucking furry beetles, the party at last stumbled back out into daylight. Relief outweighed their empty pockets, and they hurried back to the safety of their fort’s walls.
