Expedition 12 - Rarder's Account

A gang of cowards. That's who I've surrounded myself with. Hats was the only reliable bloke in this expedition. If only Tarek, Tom, Father Fryd, and even that babbling Calamatix, were alive. Gorash was nowhere to be found—quite an amazing feat for a man of his size.

I had little interest in defiling the angelic statue, but Crane's serpent tongue convinced us all to go that route. We spent hours fiddling around it, and ultimately decided to investigate the corridor with the portcullis.

Oswick, a fully-plated halfling newcomer, astounded me with his remarkable strength! He lifted the rusty iron gate as if it was made of wood. Our exploration was cut short by an attack from the translucent slide. We disposed of it, but not before it paralysed and nearly killed Hats and Martixa.

And mentioning Martixa, she has proven to be a rather cowardly fighter. In the last expedition, she only awaited us by the trapdoor, essentially doing nothing. Now she went exploring with us, but refused to join Hats and me at the vanguard. As fas as I'm concerned, she is fired.

With Doric gone, Crane's true colours are coming to light. As Oswick and I were dragging our fallen comrades, Crane suddenly ran away. Dulo  was also like a headless chicken, running with him, then running back to us, and then back to him... Yello, a freshly recruited thief, was most helpful.

I understand that hearing maniacal laughter in a dark dungeon is not necessarily a pleasant experience—but don't sign-up for something you cannot handle. Once you descend into darkness, be ready for whatever awaits.

We recovered some treasure: ruby and amethyst worth 800 gold pieces, a magical shield, and a crystal ball. The latter is jealously guarded by Crane and Dulo. I ought to keep a watchful eye on them.

Redwood Castle notes:

  • Cave beyond portcullis had three exits: bronze double doors opposite the entrance, single doors to the left, corridor to the right.
  • The section with statues had unnatural gust of wind.
  • From time to time there is a sound of moaning, followed by maniacal laughter, and rattling of the chains.
