Expedition 2 - Rarder's Introduction

Ever since he agreed to search for a missing merchant, Rarder felt some sort of uneasiness creeping up on him. But work is work, and Redwood guild-master offered a hefty payment. His only lead was that his caravan departed for the keep on Yeoldelands.

His journey was mostly uneventful, that is, until he started to pass through more forested area. That feeling of uneasiness became stronger and stronger. And if Rarder’s years of service have taught him anything about survival, it is to pay heed to such subtleties.

He stopped and scouted the area for a safe place, a vantage point from which he could easily escape. And he crouched, calming his breathing. Observing. Waiting.

As the sun was getting stronger and strong, and nothing at all was happening, Rarder slowly started to drift away. Clicking and hissing noises woke him up from his stupor abruptly.

It was dark, and Rarder instinctively took a stab at looming figure above him. It was curvy, scaly, and worst of capable enough to deflect his blow. He could see two more figures surrounding him, with no way out. He repeatedly tried to stab the first figure, but alas, all of his attacks either missed or were deflected.

Hissing figures didn't land all their blows, but eventually they beat him down. Rarder could feel blood filling his eyes. Unable to see, he took one last swing… his grip loosens, and the spear falls to the ground.

Rarder jumped up, swinging his axe wildly. It was bright daylight. The sun was still burning. Cursing at his own carelessness, he picked up the spear, and promptly resumed his journey to the keep.
