Madrioc is a decently sized town somewhere in the Nightspell Moors. It is governed by the Circle of Merchants and protected by the Madrioc Commission, which also employs mediators to assist in governmental matters between the guilds.

Structure

Madrioc functions as the main governmental seat for the Nightspell Moors, as well as a major trade nexus. It contains the largest concentrated population of any city in the Moors.

Layout

Madrioc is unofficially split into multiple wards that house different facilities.

  • The Inner Circle – The center of the city. Nexus for government and headquarters for the guilds.
  • The Grand Market – Located northeast of the Inner Circle, the Grand Market is a series of narrow streets filled with many tents selling all manner of goods.
  • The Works – The middle of the city. Filled with many shops, restaurants, bakeries, bookstores, etc. Many options, but magical shops are taboo here.
  • The Muck – The area in the southeast that is filled with ridiculously small little cabins. Mostly residential, with some small, squalid shops here and there.
  • The Western Ward – Dedicated to trade that connects to the Sanar River through the Belvalos River. A large administrative tower oversees the area. Some residences and businesses are also here, along with many storehouses.
  • The Eastern Ward – Some trade facilities that utilize the River Zof. Mostly filled with crafting facilities; forges, tanners, fletchers, etc. Not much is sold here, more so just with production.
  • The Estates – A gated area for the richer members of the city. Located close to the Mad King’s Arena.
  • The Snake – Area to the north that is home to the upper and upper middle class that can’t afford the Estates. The rich area. Residents of the snake prefer to call it the Northern Ward.
  • The Willows – Residential area to the southwest. Middle class.
  • The Curtain – Area above the Muck, known as a party district. Lots of taverns and pubs. It kind of surrounds the much, leading to its name.
  • The Spiral Ward – Section of town dedicated to magic. The Crooked Climber sits in the middle, serving as the base of operations for the Magic Guild, as they do not have a place in the Inner Circle.

History

Madrioc was founded by a former king of Falderheim, King Drioc. As the legend goes, one day, in a fit of madness, the king left his throne without a single claim to his crown, making a mad dash to the Nightspell Moors. He settled in the marshlands, founding the city on that very spot. This event is celebrated every year in the Mad King's Festival.

Drioc and the followers he collected on his journey set about carving two great canals, one from the Belvalos River, which is a tributary to the Sanar River, and one from the River Zof.

Recent Events

Kradva Ospen's original goal was to deliver the Sallow Stone to Renbedar Uleshan in Madrioc, before his untimely demise at the hands of Mardyth.

The Peas spent a large amount of time in the city after delivering the Sallow Stone to Renbedar, visiting various shops and facilities. It was here that Leadbelly Fargus forged his great halberd Onyr's Tongue. The Peas also won the 329th Mad King's Tournament during their time in the city. They mainly stayed at Rest Assured, making friends with the innkeeper Quiet.

The Peas later returned to Madrioc, and assisted in the destruction of Zahast the Vilespawn. From the gold the party pillaged from Zahast's corpse, the group purchased the Tildelly manor on the south-eastern side of the Snake.
