Aftermath of the Second Darian Civil War

Historic Event
1199

Over the years 1198-1199 the long-held status quo of Daria and the Thunder Sea was challenged with the coming of the mysterious Black Sails raids against the Darian Admiralty, an internal civil war, and a naval invasion by Calindra. Coming to an end with the shattering of the Admiralty's forces and the demise of Prince Adan, a new rule was established over Daria and wider Kahra'Alani by Admiral Brynn Sylvaran and the Crew of the Nerve heralding the beginning of a new age for Daria.

Many things would change and others remain the same, but all of it began with an election where, to the surprise of many, neither Brynn nor any of her companions stepped forth as candidates for ruler of the city. Hence it was no particular surprise to anyone when Daria's returned, legendary founder Captain Dorland achieved a landslide victory in spite of enduring three assassination attempts, four duels, and nearly expiring from a gunshot if it were not for the administrations of the Nossan clergy. Naming himself the first Grand Admiral of the new Darian Admiralty, he reestablished his former model of rule over the archipelago not unlike it's past iteration, once again dividing it into the three spheres of the Reds, the Blues, and the Greens; but this time with hindsight of the past decades of misdeeds and corruption to rebuild the old foundation with wisdom that surprised some. In addition, the Brimstone Brotherhood would be revived as he reintroduced the secret of black powder to a chosen few that would carry on the Admiralty's monopoly of the devastating weapon and ensure their dominance of the Thunder Sea. Years later, it was a decision that would decide the destiny of not only Daria.

Though met with a great deal of (sometimes) justified skepticism towards the supposedly renewed city of Daria, the once exorbitant extortions of the Greens and overzealous overtures of the Reds were reined in to further entice trade and fair(er) tolls for all ships crossing the Thunder Sea. The resulting surge of unsactioned pirates spawned from those in defiance of Dorland's rule would provide plenty of incentive for merchants to shoulder the costs of Daria's protection at sea as a fortunate side effect. In spite of the fresh blood churning the waters between Daria and Calindra, with the ambitions of the crown thoroughly quashed Calindran merchants and Dorland's newly-appointed ministers were keen to negotiate more favourable contracts and soon the wealth would freely flow. Daria's improving image and prosperity would soon permit the blooming of culture within it's tangled streets and busy taverns, becoming a place for free discourse and for ideas that challenged the conventional ways of the known world, although they never quite grew out of politically-inspired smutbooks being their primary literary export in spite of best efforts.

The coalition formed across the Kahra'Alani would endure for some time forwards, the new establishment sprung from the ashes of the old providing a rare window for the benefit of the doubt to prevail. The Hoa were sworn to be forever free of the tolls and rules Daria imposed on other ships passing through it's waters, rebuilding what was lost to the fires of war and mending ties with the others whom they shared the archipelago. The pact witnessed by Dorland to the One-Eyed Kraken was honoured with the official protection of it's spawn from any meddling or harm, a task extended to the reinstated Admiral Ora as she once again served as voice of the Kraken's spawn and defended the new status quo. In addition, led by Speaker Bloplop, an unlikely alliance was struck by the kuo-toa of the Kah'hah'harrah and Daria against their mutual enemy the sahuagin.

First Admiral Dorland would serve several terms to the very limit instated by himself, his popularity rarely wavering enough to cast his leadership into doubt, but one day he would vanish once again and set off for the Shadow Sea... only this time, with a fleet bound to explore past the small glimpse of what he found lay beyond and equipped with a Tear of Alissa.

Anya Lorenz, newly-wedded wife of Governor Lorenz, would continue to be the voice of her husband as she ruled over Swanford with a firm hand. It grew and prospered with the rising fortunes of the archipelago, becoming a popular tourist location and a site of pilgrimage as it became home to one of the most ostentatious temples of Nossa upon the face of Aranor. Dark rumours would occasionally murmur through the town, claiming the governor was long dead and that Anya possessed dark powers, but the governor's wife seemed to have a gift for putting such rumours to rest with frequent public appearances and charming viles. And any schemers poised against her had a habit of being found drained of blood, corpses bobbing in the waterfront.

Oren Twocopper, now peg-legged and grumpier than even before, rebuilt his old tavern on Twocopper Street in the Derelict District much to the astonishment of the locals. Although he could obviously have chosen any spot in the city considering his connections to the heroes of the civil war, he was content where he started and that is where he would return. The Twocopper Inn flourished, drawing crowds larger and more enthusiastic than ever before, much to Oren's consternation to his dying day.

Former Admiral Gorin Glittergold immediately found the next opportunity to exploit as he fled west for Estar, landing on the Darian outpost of Dorwich largely under control of his unravelling faction. Pulling every string he could, greasing every palm he had to, and leveraging all of his contacts at once, he successfully took control of the town and declared it free of Darian oppression as a freetown of Estar. Already a den of scum and villainy, under Gorin's direction it grew scummier and more villainous yet, a launching point for smugglers and thieves that reflected the old Daria in miniature. He remained a thorn in the side of all whom crossed the Thunder Sea and a growing annoyance to the free cities of Estar for years to come.

The fate of the defeated Admiral Fion the Red remains unclear. After being sentenced for her crimes to labour for the Hoa, she was interred in servitude upon a farm in the southern isles of the lagoon where she stoicly submitted to her fate with resignation that surprised her guards. Several years into her sentence, a sahuagin raiding party fell upon the village which hosted her and forced an evacuation of the entire village. Her guards freed her of her fetters and bade her to flee with them, but Fion refused and chose to remain behind. When the villagers later returned, they found the field she had once worked littered with the remains of slain sahuagin, their decorated priestess dead with a shovel thrust between her ribs. Besides the vanquished leader of the warband they found a spot of scorched earth, a strange finding since neither Fion or the sahuagin were known to utilize fire magic. No corpse or trail to be found, Fion was assumed stolen away into the sea. Chieftess Keahi could not accept the unknown fate of Fion, her desire for vengeance consuming her from within upon the fear she had escaped her rightful punishment. Giving up her position, she instead travelled north for the Fjallur Isles with a vow of vengeance, seeking the fugitive in her old home.

Khoruthaendios returned to his watery home in the archipelago and reassumed his role of guarding the lesser races of his home, never with the enthusiasm of his younger days but finding a flicker of the good in them his mate once had he would give in to his better nature to watch over them once again. Much as he had told Lance, he never took another mate and found purpose in his self-imposed quest. It would become far more involved in the years to come, as fate would have it.

The Crew of the Nerve's stories would linger on as the stuff of legends throughout the Thunder Sea, featuring in many new ballads and shanties and chapbooks peddled across it's every shore given time. The fates of some of them was clearer than others, but wherever they went from this day on their fame was sure to precede them.

Brynn and Na'ita left to travel the wider world on new adventures of their own, freed of their obligations real and imagined to Daria to roam free and far, all but for the pact that Brynn had sworn to the One-Eyed Kraken. She would be responsible for the continued peace between mortals and it's spawn populating the Thunder Sea, sometimes called to counsel or action. It was the one thing she could never flee.

Noelani and Evron claimed for themselves some much-needed calm following the trials of war and intrigues across sand and sea. Whatever they did from here, they did for themselves and for each other, honouring Nossa as they rode the storm where it carried them.

Phaeydra and Mortimer played no larger part in brewing politics but instead used their fame and wealth to found the settlement of Thelorah, a budding town on the edge of the Dorwood that would host one of the few open temples of Falandine and draw with it a small population of the Falandin faith out of past hiding. It would develop into a place of learning and culture, for uncensored keeping of history and record; but under the influence of Mortimer it would also soon feature a theatre, festivals, and commercial use of it's printing press, all of which had the accidental effect of greatly increasing the appeal of the town's otherwise ostracized faith.

Esme roamed and travelled the archipelago and beyond as she pleased, recent heroics clearing her of the dark rumours that had before soiled her reputation. Wherever she went, she was recognized and respected, and the word of mouth about her cooking had many crews keen to invite her on for a spot in their galley.

Lance would soon be found by his sister Elizabeth and firmly encouraged to return with her home to alleviate the worries of their parents, leaving his family with a great many questions he would probably never be equipped to fully answer or see them make sense of. Nevertheless, they would be glad to find him alive and well once the immediate outrage and "what the hell were you thinking" had time to settle.
